A Brief Description
CHCSS00141 – Child Protection Skill Set provides a set of skills for undertaking child protection functions in a variety of roles in the community services sector. Work may involve providing support to children, families or communities.
This Skill Set is targeted at individuals currently working in the child protection sector or with existing qualifications or experience in community services roles seeking to broaden their skills in child protection.

CHCPRT025 – Identify and report children and young people at risk

CHCMHS007 – Work effectively in trauma informed care
You will be asked to complete 4 subjects via online learning. You may also apply for Recognition of Prior Learning if you believe you already have the knowledge and skills relevant to a particular unit or units. An RPL application must be submitted at the time of enrolment and the onus is on the student to provide sufficient, current, valid and authentic evidence against each of the units. Where there are gaps in your evidence, a professional conversation with your assessor may provide additional evidence. Your assessor may also ask you to provide further evidence to substantiate your claim of competency in a particular unit/s.
Where gaps in evidence remain – that is that you cannot be considered competent on the evidence provided, gap training will be made available to you. For gap training, you will be provided with workbooks and given assessments to complete. It is possible that gap training might include practical assessments.
This is a self-paced program so the time to complete depends on the rate of submission. It is anticipated the process will take up to 6 months and is mostly dependent on you completing the assessment so that your assessor can review it. We will move at your pace and support you to set achievable goals.
This Skill Set is targeted at individuals currently working in the child protection sector or with existing qualifications or experience in community services roles.
The qualification involves a mandatory 120 hour Vocational Placement. Horizon2 may be able to assist you to identify and negotiate an appropriate placement. If you are not currently employed or volunteering in industry, during your course you will be required to complete vocational placement so you can start practicing your skills in the workplace. You’ll be required to work shifts determined by your placement provider, and these can include early mornings or late nights, any day of the week, including public holidays.
Completing placement is compulsory, and you will be expected to manage family and work commitments in order to complete your shifts. You are required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of placement to satisfy this component of your qualification.
We understand that times can be tough, so we offer payment plans that can be negotiated with you via Pay Advantage or you can use HUMM EZIPAY. Applicants of a Pay Advantage payment plan will only receive certification when program payment is made in full.

Queensland Career Boost Funding:
Eligible applicants may apply to study this Skill Set under Queensland Skills Assure funding. To be eligible for the special pricing associated with this funding, students must meet the eligibility criteria.

PLEASE NOTE: Eligibility for this Skill Set under Career Boost funding requires any prospective student be an Existing Worker in a front line service role involving direct contact with children, youth or families who hold a Certificate III qualification and may have a Certificate IV or higher level qualification. A relevant employer’s confirmation of employment letter will be required to be deemed eligible for funding under this Skill Set.
